│Race review
The Canadian Grand Prix already looked unpredictable before the start.
Some drivers chose intermediate tyres, but the track turned out to be drier than expected.
At the start, Lando Norris made strong use of the intermediates and briefly moved into the lead.
But the rain never intensified, and McLaren had to switch early to slick tyres.
That decision cost them heavily and left McLaren on the back foot from the opening phase.
After that, the main story became the battle between the two Mercedes drivers.
Russell and Antonelli stayed close and traded the lead several times.
Antonelli attacked into Turn 1 and the final corner, while Russell responded calmly.
It was an intense team-mate fight and a tense race for Mercedes.
But on lap 30, Russell suddenly slowed down.
He stopped the car by the side of the track and retired.
It was a painful result for a driver who had been fighting for victory.
That retirement completely changed the flow of the race and handed Antonelli the advantage.
After Russell’s retirement, Antonelli controlled the race with a stable pace.
He gradually extended the gap behind and won the Canadian Grand Prix.
It was his fourth win of the season, and it also increased his lead in the drivers’ championship.
The fight for second then became a battle between Hamilton and Verstappen.
Hamilton closed in late in the race and completed a fine overtake into Turn 1.
Verstappen kept fighting, but Hamilton held on to second until the finish.
For Hamilton, it was one of his biggest results since moving to Ferrari.
Franco Colapinto finished sixth for Alpine and recorded the best result of his F1 career.
It was a tough race for McLaren.
Norris briefly led, but the early tyre call backfired.
Later he also suffered a reliability problem and retired.
Piastri, meanwhile, received a penalty after contact with Alex Albon and also needed a front wing change.
He eventually finished outside the points in 11th place.
